Husky Dog Picture

A Husky dog picture can only tell you about the appearance of the dog, but you can learn nothing about the activity level and temperament of these wonderful dogs till you see them in action. Everyday behavior of a Husky dog represents that of the wolf, its ancestor. Huskies are not aggressive to people and will never attack a stranger, but they possess a strong hunting drive. When released from the yard for exercise, a Husky is likely to run away to investigate the surroundings and chase everything it can. Such behavior is welcome in hunting dogs, but not in family pets. People who are going to obtain a Husky and keep it as a family companion will definitely face a problem of an overactive animal that always tries to escape. Only long daily exercises with a leashed Husky can burn off the extra energy of a dog and give enough impressions for its inquisitive mind.

Ancient Husky dog picture galleries found in Siberia and recent DNA analysis confirm that the sled dog is one of the oldest breeds domesticated by the man. All modern Northern dog breeds (the Siberian Husky, Samoyed, and Alaskan Malamute) have developed from one common ancestor, the Tomarctus or the Eskimo dog. The descendants of the Eskimo dog were once found in the coldest regions of the Northern hemisphere from Siberia to Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Labrador.

No Husky dog picture can tell about the endurance of this breed. Many tribes were able to survive and push forth into new territories accompanied by Huskies. Northern hunters took these dogs with them as they investigated new lands, because they relied on them and used these dogs not only as sled dogs, but also as hunters, guards and even for food when there was nothing to eat. Ancient sled dogs were probably used to cross the land bridge of the Bering Straight on the way into Alaska. The word “husky” was probably derived from Inuit tribes named “huskies.” Even in the 20th century, people were aided by Huskies during their expeditions to the North Pole and even to the South Pole.

Nowadays, Siberian Huskies are replaced by more popular Alaskan Huskies in the USA. Alaskan Huskies are selected for speed and have less heavy coats. They are not adapted for living in harsh conditions of Siberia, but they make good reliable pets and docile sled dogs. Purebred Siberian and Alaskan Huskies tend to divide into racing and show types. Before obtaining a Husky, decide what you want it for and consult with the breeder, because minor differences between the racing and show types are not evident in a Husky dog picture.
