Alaskan Husky Dogs are not a recognized dog breed. Their working dog qualities are more important than their conformation. Dogs used in sledding and racing events are known for their strength, endurance and stamina. Breeders select the Alaskan Huskies that have a dense double coat, that are strong and powerfully built, with durable feet and a willingness to work.
If a potential buyer of the Alaskan Husky Dog is planning to use its working dog qualities, which is the best thing to do taking into consideration the breed's purpose, he or she is advised to visit sledding/racing events and speak to mushers, handlers and breeders of sled dogs.
Alaskan Husky dogs are rather energetic and playful. They do not make good house pets or do well with children. Having very high exercise requirements, Alaskan Huskies are for those interested in sledding. If you are not an active and zealous owner, consider buying another dog breed.
Responsible breeders care for their reputation. Therefore, their aim is to produce healthy and temperamentally sound working dogs. A responsible breeder should be knowledgeable in order to be able to offer advice on maintenance and handling of Alaskan Husky Dogs.
A pedigree should be available for a potential owner to see the background of the litter and to make sure the breeding program is aimed at the improvement of the breed. Alaskan Husky dogs are special dogs for special owners.
